About the role

We are looking for an engineer to own infrastruture problems across our business, including packaging, supporting, and deploying our on-premise product offering, as well as evolving the infrastructure and tooling that we use to support our core cloud offerings.

Our engineering team is extremely small and we aim to keep it that way. This means that each person on our team carries significant weight and responsibility, and must ship a lot. In return, we have great compensation, zero bureaucracy, little to no meetings, and the opportunity to immensely impact the business each day.

For this role, we’re looking for someone senior, ideally with 10+ years of overall experience and 5+ years experience managing cloud infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for infrastructure relied on by tens of thousands of developers and engineering leaders worldwide.

Our team is mostly based out of Salt Lake City, so candidates must have at least 5-hours of overlap with Mountain Time zone. The compensation range for this role is $160,000 – $280,000 base salary, plus additional equity compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy, development, deployment, documentation, packaging, and customer success for on-prem and single-tenant product offerings.

  • Implement and continually improve systems and processes for problem detection and remediation of single-tenant customer instances, including guiding and overseeing staffing strategy and accountability.

  • Develop tooling for provisioning, deployments, rollbacks, and monitoring of single-tenant customer instances, delivering significant productivity gains for our product engineers and business.

  • Lead integration of Crunchy Data Warehouse, including pricing and packaging strategy, customer launch, and development of self-service management capabilities.

  • Lead cloud cost monitoring, reporting, optimization, scenario modeling, forecasting, and strategy.

  • Plan and deliver on 12-18 month strategy to migrate our fleet of single-tenant customer instances from Heroku to AWS.

  • Document the tools and processes continuously, so that knowledge is shared and easily learnable, and other engineers can step into your shoes when you’re on vacation.

What makes a great fit

  • You are confident in configuring, deploying, monitoring, and scaling production-scale applications using Terraform, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.

  • You are comfortable tackling networking problems involving VPCs, private peering, and AWS PrivateLink.

  • You have experience writing Ruby and bash scripts.

  • You are extremely organized and formidable at driving projects forward against all odds.

  • You enjoy being customer-facing and helping support customers both in writing and over live calls.
